I can't read this book. I know I should. I don't want to be depressed or heart broken. I want to act as an example that there is success in the arts in the small, that there are non-traditional ways to make a living in the arts, solely in the arts, that power in the hands of the playwrights is the change that needs to occur. Am I sticking my head in the sand by not reading this book? Hmmm.

And people forget that Hamlet is generally heavily edited before production.

So by really great play we mean really great play that still has some flaws just like every other play. But I'm lazy and don't have to justify producing Hamlet.

Plus it's free. Let's not forget that rather than a moving target like you would expect (what was good when I Was young is still good), we are stuck on pre-1923 as “good”. Which is to say – Free.
